For most of us, the thought of becoming unemployed is extremely stressful. As a society, we like the security that goes with a job and the thought of losing that security along with the financial gains associated with employment can become a nightmare. With our ever increasing debts to service and day to day living expenses to cater for, there are not many of us that can say if they lost their job tomorrow they could survive comfortably. Of course, most of us are lucky. For the most part, our jobs are fairly secure, but none of us know what is around the next corner. I personally have been made unexpectedly redundant in the past and I can tell you, it’s not a nice feeling, especially with children to provide for. If I knew then what I know now it would have been a lot easier. I have now taken out unemployment insurance which in a nutshell, provides me with income support / protection should I become unemployed again, for whatever reason. I can now safely say that I walk into my job not worrying about becoming unemployed as I know my mortgage and debts will be serviced and I’ll still be able to provide for my children as I always have.
